Hi,

I found this app very useful, is there any option that i can disable saving my photo to ipad, but still able to preview every shots i took, or import JPG only?

Also is there any filmstrip function when previewing my shots? Would be helpful.

I also found there’s no zooming function when previewing image, is there any method to enable it, and able to change the preview resolution?

For full functionality with Cascable Studio, the α7C II needs firmware version 2.0.0 or later installed. With that installed, Cascable Studio can access the camera’s internal storage, which makes your workflow a lot easier to achieve. See our compatibility page for your camera for details.

The rest of this post assumes that you have that firmware version installed.

To stop the forced copying of fullsize images to your iPad, set the camera’s “Still Image Destination” setting to “Camera”. Then, when you take a shot, Cascable Studio is able to read only the preview out of a RAW image and display it. By default, in this configuration, images won’t be saved to your iPad unless you explicitly copy them over.

Zooming of previews is available as long as the resolution of the preview is high enough. If you’re shooting RAW, you can get more control of this by:

  • Shooting in RAW+JPEG.
  • Setting your camera’s “Still Image Destination” setting to “PC+Camera” (it may be “Host+Camera” or “Dest.+Camera”, depending on the model).
  • Setting your camera’s “RAW+J Save Img” setting to “JPEG Only”.

What this does is sets your camera to save RAW images only to the camera’s storage cards, but transfer the JPEG version over to Cascable Studio. You can then control the resolution of the preview by adjusting the JPEG image size setting of your camera, all the way up to full resolution.

I will note that the next update to Cascable Studio (version 7.4) will contain a new setting that makes getting the highest resolution preview possible easier. Until then, you can use the above camera settings.
